Building an Email List in 2021 is more important than ever. An email list allows you to build a database of potential interested customers or prospects that you can communicate with over time. When you communicate with your email list, you can promote information, updates, and really anything you want.
The reason an email list is so valuable is that (according to all the data) it is seen as more engaging than social media in terms of click through rates and other stats.
Email is seen as 40 times more effective at acquiring new customers against social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
In this post, I am going to give you 5 simple tips for building your email list in 2021 and beyond. This will give you the foundation to start building your list and lay the ground work for communicating with your subscribers.
Tip 1: Decide on your niche
It’s very important that you understand what exactly you are building a list for, and who you are trying to attract. For example, you might be be trying to build a list in the weight loss niche, nutrition, or something completely different like construction.
The important thing is that you understand who you’re trying to attract because later on you’re going to have to produce your content to build your list of subscribers.
You need to understand who your target market is.
Rather than having a general email list (which is kind of pointless), you need to think about what you’re actually offering and what target market you’re going to go after. Think of what products or services you’re offering. This will be important for building your email list going forward.
Tip 2: Develop a lead magnet
A lead magnet is something that you use as an incentive to get someone to give you their email address.
This can take lots of different forms, like a free eBook download, cheat sheet, webinar and others. Or on the simpler side, it could just be access to new updates over time.
To be honest, the most valuable kind of lead magnet will be something that is very specific, so not generic updates over time which doesn’t sound very valuable to the prospect.
A much more valuable lead magnet would be something like an eBook or a cheat sheet that is showing some valuable information related to your niche.
The reason it’s important to demonstrate some value is because people are very protective of their data, and they’re not so willing to just give their email address out for anything. They need some kind of incentive (or bribe) through the form of a lead magnet.
Once you have a lead magnet, you need to have some way of showing what you’re offering through the form of a landing page.
A landing page is a way for your subscribers to opt in via email. The best and most simple way to create a landing page is to use a tool like LeadPages.
I have used this tool for years, I recommend checking it out here. It will give you a variety of different pages you can use to have your lead magnet or opt-in form on.
Tip 3: Get an autoresponder email service
An autoresponder essentially is an email service where you store your leads (and their email address) in a database.
Through this service, you will be able to communicate with your email list at the click of a button and you can also have what’s called an autoresponder sequence.
This means that when a person subscribes or opts-in for the first time, they will automatically start getting emails from you according to a schedule, and you can keep everything organized.
There are also lots more advanced things you can do, like segmenting your list according to subscribers that are more active than others.
Tip 4: Get traffic to your lead magnet
To do this, you need to be creating some form of content.
Content can be in the form of blog posts, YouTube videos, social media posts and more.
You need to think about how many of these methods you’re going to go for, and what is appropriate for your industry and niche.
For example, if you are producing blog posts, you need to make a plan of how much content you’re going to do each week and month.
You need to think about what form that content will take. If you’re going for social media content, you’re going to be thinking about what social networks are the best fit for your industry and niche.
Once you have a plan, you simply need to go out there and create content that will link back to your lead magnet and this will allow you to build an email list.
Tip 5: Keep in touch with your subscribers
Once you have built a list, you need to keep in touch with and nurture that list.
This starts with some kind of welcome email that your email subscribers will receive as soon as they opt in. It continues with regular follow up over time.
You need to decide on the frequency with which you keep in touch with your subscribers. It could be on a weekly basis, or a few times a month. You just need to have some kind of schedule for keeping in touch with your email list so that you are making best use of the communication.
As the saying goes, the “fortune is in the follow up”.
If you’ve done the hard part of building an email list, you need to reap the benefits of that by keeping in touch with your subscribers and give them value.
You can also make money from your email list by promoting various products and services, and keeping them up to date with what you are doing.
